KATHMANDU: Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal ‘Prachanda’ has inaugurated the foundation stone laying ceremony of the bridge over the Narayani River connecting Chitwan and eastern Nawalparasi.

The bridge, based on state-of-the-art technology, will be a cable-stayed bridge.

The construction work of the bridge has been initiated by the Department of Roads.

According to Ramesh Poudel, Chief of Bharatpur Division Road Office, the design, construction, and a three-year timeline for the completion of the bridge have been finalized.

The bridge, which will be constructed over the Narayani River near Narayangadh on the East-West Highway, will be approximately 420 meters long and 12 meters wide, with two pillars in the middle, each spanning 210 meters apart.

It is designed to accommodate not only vehicular traffic but also facilitate the passage of water vessels.

The bridge will have towers at two points, facilitating construction solely through cable mediums.

The estimated cost for the construction of this bridge is approximately Rs 16.8 billion.

The contract for construction was awarded to Tundi Construction Pvt. Ltd. in June 2, 2023, with a stipulated completion period of four years.

The construction of the new bridge over the Narayani River has commenced as the old bridge had deteriorated.
