KATHMANDU: A vibrant celebration unfolded at Tundikhel, Kathmandu, as the Nepal Army organized a special ceremony to mark the auspicious occasion of Nepal Army Day and Maha Shivaratri festival on Tuesday.

The event showcased the remarkable prowess of various army battalions through captivating march pasts and impressive displays of military arts and skills.

Amidst the festivities, Nepal Army personnel demonstrated their precision and discipline with celebratory firing from rifles and cannons, alongside meticulous drills and march pasts.

The atmosphere was electrified with adrenaline as soldiers showcased free-fall jumps, cultural performances, and the iconic Khukuri drills, symbolizing the bravery and heritage of the Nepali Army.

With the convergence of Army Day and Maha Shivaratri, the occasion held profound significance, reflecting the deep-rooted cultural and patriotic fervor within the Nepali Army.

This annual tradition serves as a tribute to the dedication and valor of the brave men and women who serve the nation with unwavering commitment.

The ceremony exemplified the unwavering spirit and indomitable strength of the Nepal Army, resonating with pride and patriotism as the nation celebrated this momentous occasion.

Army Day is marked with elaborate ceremonies held at Sainik Manch, Tundikhel, as well as at various army establishments, departments, formations, paramilitary units, forces, and sub-units nationwide.

During the event, the Nepal Army showcased a diverse range of military prowess and skills.

President Ram Chandra Paudel participated in a special ceremony organized by the Nepali Army today at Sainik Manch Tundikhel to mark the occasion of Mahashivratri and the 261st Army Day.

During the event, he paid homage to the military memorial by laying flowers and received a salute from the Nepali Army.

As the Commander-in-Chief of the Nepalese Army, President Paudel holds a significant position within the military hierarchy. The Nepali Army has traditionally observed Mahashivratri as Army Day, symbolizing Shiva’s association with peace and security.

President Paudel also presided over the release of the annual magazine ‘Sipahi-2080’ published by the Nepali Army’s Directorate of Military Public Relations and Information. He honored Tanka Bahadur Dangi, who secured first place in the ‘Free Fall Jump’ competition, and soldier Jaganath Danai, who achieved second place. Additionally, President Paudel presented commemorative gifts to team leaders from the Indian, British, and American armies, who showcased their bands during the Army Day ceremony.

Earlier in the day, an army helicopter showered flowers, while the national flag and a banner reading ‘Army Day-2080’ were displayed. The Nepali Army conducted the Mahashivratri parade and showcased shield with rifles and cannons.

Various artistic performances, dances, and musical renditions were presented, highlighting both battle skills and traditional attire. The program also featured a march pass.

The occasion provided an opportunity to exhibit various vehicles, equipment, and weapons utilized by the Nepali Army in peacekeeping missions. Notable dignitaries including Vice President Ram Sahaya Prasad Yadav, Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal ‘Prachanda,’ and Chief Justice Bishwambhar Prasad Shrestha graced the event.

Deputy Prime Minister, Ministers, Members of Parliament, Constitutional bodies, high-ranking government officials, heads of security agencies, representatives of diplomatic missions in Nepal, and other distinguished guests also attended the celebration at Tundikhel.

A large crowd gathered around Tundikhel to witness the Shivaratri celebration, which was broadcasted live by Nepal Television and other electronic media outlets.

Following the ceremony, Chief of Army Staff Prabhuram Sharma awarded the Chief of Army Commendation Medal to individuals who have made exceptional contributions to various fields of society.
