KATHMANDU: Today is Kartik Dwadashi, i.e. Dhanteras.

There is a trend of purchasing new gold, silver, copper, iron, and other metal utensils and bringing them home.

Dhanteras is regarded as the top Deepawali shopping destination. Dhanteras is now commemorated by the addition of new metal artifacts. It is a Mithila practice to begin the Deepawali festival by purchasing and worshiping metal things.

From the evening onwards, the goddess Laxmi, the goddess of wealth, is worshiped by lighting lamps in every home.

As Deepawali is primarily a holiday to honor Laxmi, the goddess of wealth, the first day of the festival is dedicated to pleasing Laxmi by adding new objects.

In the evening, the ‘Deepawali’ festival is started by lighting the lamp and worshiping Dhanteras.

Due to the special festival, there is a rush of customers in copper, brass and bronze pottery shops and gold and silver jewelery shops today.

It is believed that the goods bought today will bring good luck, durability and profit.
