KATHMANDU: The recent earthquake, centered in Jajarkot, has inflicted a devastating toll, with the total number of fatalities reaching 154.

According to the latest data, Jajarkot accounts for 92 of the casualties, while Rukum West has reported 62 lives lost.

In addition to the fatalities, over 150 people have been reported as injured, with three severely wounded individuals from Rukum West successfully rescued via a Nepalese army helicopter. They have been transported to the provincial hospital in Surkhet for medical treatment.

Dhankumari Shahi, the deputy head of Aathbiskot municipality in Rukum West, provided insights from the ground, revealing that the earthquake led to the loss of 52 lives within the municipality alone.

Additionally, the town of Athabiskot reported 60 injuries, with three critically injured individuals receiving immediate evacuation to the Karnali State Hospital in Surkhet.

Efforts are actively underway to gather comprehensive details regarding the extent of the damage inflicted by the powerful earthquake.

The earthquake, measuring 6.4 in magnitude, struck Jajarkot and Rukum West on the previous night, causing significant structural damage and resulting in the collapse of numerous buildings.

These powerful tremors have also left hundreds of people injured in the affected region. The impact of the earthquake was deeply felt across both Jajarkot and Rukum West, leading to substantial human casualties and widespread material devastation.
